Anyone add folding rear seats to a lower trim Versa?

I'll jump right into it, 've got one of the more basic Versa models and I'm slowly trying to make it a little more livable little by little coz I dont have the time or the bulk funds to so it all at once and one thing that's really bugging me is not being able to fold down the fixed rear bench, makes hauling even small stuff a hassle, I've been thinking about grabbing a folding seat setup from an SV or SL trim, but I'm not sure if the swap is straightforward, Idk if the mounting points and latches already in place on the lower trims, or would I be looking at cutting or welding to make them work?

If anyone has tried this swap or has tips on compatibility, I'd love to hear how it went before I decide or not to go into mine

Typically, the mounting points for the 60/40 split-folding rear seats found in SV and SL Versa trims are also present in the base models.
I think Nissan often uses a common chassis with provisions for higher trim features, so you'd likely find the bolt holes for the hinges and latch mechanisms already there under the carpet or trim, just capped off.
Your main task would be sourcing the seats themselves, along with the necessary hinge hardware and potentially the side bolster pieces that accommodate the fold.
It should be a pretty straightforward unbolt and rebolt job, and there's no need to cut or weld anything.
Try double-checking a parts diagram if you can to confirm before you buy, but it's a common and usually successful upgrade!

Automakers deliberately cripple base models like the Versa's fixed rear bench to upsell trims, not because it saves them meaningful production costs. The mounting points usually exist, it's just gatekeeping by design to squeeze out more profit per unit.

Yep @CedNSedan, nailed it. Nissan likes to leave the mounting points ready for upgrades, so it’s mostly about sourcing the right seats and hardware. Definitely check a parts diagram first, but it’s usually a pretty smooth swap.
